Mahabir’s Center for Nepal Connection is a cafe like no other! The Nepal Connection cafe which has been active since September 2012 has recently launched a new menu with attractive offers on for the next month. I personally like this cafe a lot as it provides uninterrupted internet connection and I believe it probably is the cafe with the fastest internet in Kathmandu. On top of that, the menu has a nice mix of Nepali and Western dishes at a price which is quite affordable for Thamel. Mahabir Dai’s cafe is located on the first floor of Mandala Street. The cafe with a social cause is the only restaurant in Kathmandu from where all the “net profit goes to support education and health programs” in rural Nepal. With an intention to connect both Nepali and non-Nepali friends who are interested in the rural and overall development of Nepal, Mahabir dai’s cafe is a great place to meet new people, build contacts and exchange ideas.
Beyond food and drinks the center is also equipped with audio and video facilities – laptops for use as well! If you’re looking for volunteering experience in villages near the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas then all it takes is a conversation with one of the staff or the main man himself, Mahabir Pun to fix a program as per your interest.

Mahabir Pun is a well-known teacher, social entrepreneur, development activist and known for his extensive work in applying wireless technologies (Nepal Wireless Technology Project) to develop remote areas in Himalayas of Nepal. He has won the Philippines “Ramon Magsaysay Award” which is considered as the Noble Prize for Asia in 2007 and also “Internet Hall of Fame” in 2014 for his work. He is a Ashoka Fellow and the Jonathan B. Postal Service Awardee.
