Forget the documentaries being shown on TV about this and that being the deadliest journey. The Banepa-Sindhuli-Bardibas road is one of the most accident prone roads in Nepal. Just few days ago a bus full of people returning to Kathmandu after Dashain festivities met with a fatal accident where 41 died and left 15 injured. Passengers who were on the rooftop are believed to have jumped to save their life, however those that were inside the bus weren’t so lucky! To read more about the crash click this link for the full report my Republica.
Crashes that have occured on the same road:
”On April 14, 2010, a bus (Ba 2 Kha 7936) operated by Kavre Bus Operators Association met with an accident at Majuwabagar, killing three passengers and injuring over 20.
On May 3 this year, another bus (Ba 2 Kha 3375) fell 200 meters from Ritthebhir along the same road, killing 12 people and injuring 12.”
Some things needing to be improved big time:
1. Roads – make them wider
2. Drivers – they speed way too much
3. Buses – some buses literally are falling apart
Just saying… a small part of the road has been closed off for buses which leaves me wondering how one will get from A to B. But the good thing is the roadworks are set to begin from today and the PM Baburam Bhattarai has vowed to launch an investigation panel on this accident.
no need for investigation , we all know this happens due to lack of poor traffic rules and policies and lack of implementation of existing traffic and transportation laws. instead of wasting time investigating baburam bhattrai can needs to make sure laws and policies are implemented as new ones are made.
