Check out this incredible shot of a red panda by Sonam Tashi Lama. This photo which was taken back in 2009 in Ilam was the Winning Overall photo in Mountain Biodiversity Contest by ICIMOD. To protect these animals from going into decline, the Red Panda Network is an organisation that has been working with the locals in various parts of Nepal to build awareness about red pandas and protect their natural habitat.

It’s pretty cool to see the Red Panda being used as the mascot for disaster preparedness videos by USAID Nepal. If you haven’t seen it yet then check out the short clip below.

  1. Sonam is one of the outstanding people who are committing their talents to improving the lives and environment for Nepalis and the world. Since this award-winning red panda photo he has continued to help us protect this unique species and the mountain habitat they represent. Most recently this spring with surveys of red panda conservation status and awareness creation in two districts in Nepal’s Midwest, where neither we (nor others) have been working previously on red panda habitat conservation.
