Designer Prabal Gurung has not shied away from speaking up on issues close to his heart. Whether it’s Nepal, his global upbringing, the US politics or women, Gurung has been vocal about it all. At the New York Fashion Week on Sunday, Gurung let his designs do the talking during the Prabal Gurung Autumn/Winter 2017 Ready to wear collection showcase. Now I’ll get onto the closing sequence in a minute but the dresses before were stunning. I can totally see the stars wearing it in no time. I’ve only shared a few here but you can click here to view the rest.
The show concluded with a powerful sequence where models walked wearing t-shirts with slogans ranging from “Nevertheless, She Persisted”, “The Future Is Female”, “Femininity With A Bite”, “I Have A Dream”, “I Am An Immigrant” and the designer himself walked out to receive a standing ovation, wearing “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like” t-shirt. What a wrap! It wasn’t just the slogans but the designer also brought a diversity in size on the runway by booking models Candice Huffine and Marquita Pring.
Celebrities and public figures spotted at Prabal’s show includes Anna Wintour, Priyanka Chopra, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Kruger, Huma Abedin, Olivia Palermo and Leighton Meester.
