It is always wonderful to hear about the amazing things that Nepalis are doing all over the world. I want to say a huge thank you to Anita Pariyar for sharing her report all the way from Colombo, Sri Lanka about Lt Jit Bahadur Pun of Nepal Army receiving five military study awards during the 22nd General Convocation 2012 of General Sir Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). Lt Pun also received the prestigious Sword of Honor from Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa. Although this took place a while back in November 2012, I just want to say many congratulations to Lt Jit Bahadur Pun.

President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa has awarded Nepal Army’s Lieutenant Jit Bahadur Pun Magar with the Sword of Honor, Trophy for the first in order of merit and Trophy for the best overall performance in Academic studies (Engineering Stream) , Bachelor of Science, defense studies during the 22nd General Convocation-2012 of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), one of Sri Lanka’s esteemed degree awarding seats of military learning on November 2nd, 2012 at Temple Trees (Presidential Residence) in Colombo.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces confered the Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees (Defence Studies) to the 139 graduands who successfully completed studies in Management, Engineering, Management and Technical Sciences, Commerce and Arts streams.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunatilleke, Tri Forces Commanders, Chancellor General Rohan Daluwatte and Vice Chancellor Milinda Peries were also present.
President Rajapaksa presents the Ceremonial Sword to Lieutenant Jit Bahadur Pun Magar from Nepal Army who was adjudged the Best Overall Performer at the KDU Convocation.
Lieutenant Pun Magar (25) was born in Pokhara and went to Gandaki Boarding School for his school education and later he joined the Nepal Army. During his training period he was offered a scholarship by the Nepal Army at KDU for Engineering study, Bachelor of Science, defense studies since 2008
He received total 5 awards including 3 from the President Rajapaksa:
1. Trophy for the best overall performance in Academic studies (Engineering Stream)
2. Trophy for the first in order of merit
3. Sword of Honor
Also he receives two more awards by the Chancellor, General (retd.) Rohan Daluwatte
1. Best in aeronautical Engineering
2. Best in Leadership and Management Studies.
It has a great importance here of his outstanding result. President praised him on his speech saying we need more foreign student like Nepali student Jit Pun in our Defense Studies. He did so well and he is an example. Lt. Jit Pun is back in Nepal and serving Nepal Army. Lt. Pun made Nepal and Nepali proud in Sri Lanka. Thank you for that. Wishing you a brighter life ahead.
