Miss UK Nepal Durga Gurung is currently in Nepal with the Project United team. During her month long stay in Nepal Durga will be visiting various organizations and taking her project along to different towns and villages outside of Kathmandu. The 21-year old recently spent some time at Children and Youth First (CYF) where she taught the youngsters about the importance of traffic lights, taught the girls a few catwalk moves, distributed gifts for the children and also supported the organisation by donating Nrs 34,000.
Since being crowned Miss UK Nepal in September 2012 by former Miss UK Nepal Gaumaya Gurung, Durga has been involved in two charity events ‘Beauty With Purpose’ and ‘Sahayog’. Through both the events, Durga has been fundraising for several organizations including CYF, DREAMS and a free health camp in Kaski. Project United team consists of many Nepali youths from the UK including beauty queens Neelam Gurung and Parika Ale. Neelam and Parika’s projects have focused on Mustang and Ghandruk.
It’s wonderful to see the young being involved in making a change through their own efforts. Remember, you do not have to be a beauty queen to make a start. Best wishes to Project United team and everyone else out there who are doing their best to spread positive energy, hope and optimism.
