I was informed about Hope Alliance, a not for profit organisation based in Newcastle, Australia quite a while ago but you know, things happen and I never got around to checking it out till today. Hope Alliance works in and around a small remote village in the Mount Manaslu region called Lhi. The organisation coordinates projects, creates initiatives and develops sustainable opportunities which improve the lives, futures and education of Himalayan children and families in Nepal.
Apart from child sponsorship and making donations, they also provide a fantastic way of getting involved with their annual TREK WITH PURPOSE. The trek is a perfect combination of exploring the beauty of rural Nepal and also doing your little to better the community where Hope Alliance works. Volunteers are closely involved with the ongoing projects of Hope Alliance from assisting the school activities, painting, building library shelves, running workshops for teachers, supporting the health posts and living with a local family. It definitely sounds like an exciting time for the volunteers.
The price for the volunteering experience is $3300 Australian Dollars – maybe a little steep… but it includes a whole range from helicopter flight back to Kathmandu, porters, trekking permits and accommodation. Might be worth checking out if you are interested.
