Nepali School Children To Be Taught About Sexuality and Gender Diversity!

Some amazing human rights news here!

The education board of Nepal has included sexuality and gender diversity as part of the school curriculum on sexual and reproductive health for classes 6, 7 and 8. LGBT rights activist Sunil Babu Pant shared “This is a huge achievement for Nepal. It took 5 years for this to happen, but we are happy that education is inclusive now. The new generation will have less of sexuality and gender related prejudices and more acceptance of sexual and gender diversity and lives.”

Of course there will be people out there who will find this good news devastating but who cares. Here’s to hoping that there is a better understanding and treatment of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of Nepal – so that they also receive equal opportunities and are able to make a living. When the new syllabus is rolled out, I hope the teachers are able to educate the youngsters of homosexuality, third genders and sexual/sexuality related issues with respect and free from their own personal views.
