There I was – on my way to Thamel for the very first time this year when I learned that Akshay Kumar was also filming in the area. I didn’t realise there would be so much commotion and security around the area. People flocked the corners of Thamel surrounding Mandala Street desperate to see this celebrity. Whilst police joked that the president had arrived, some wondered if the Bollywood star Akshay Kumar would come out and wave to those waiting nearby. That he did. Plenty of waves, plenty of takes and the crowd wanted more! “We Want Akshay” was heard loud and clear. The actor appeared once again and joined his hands together and bowed his head, Namaste.
Before anyone asks, I had no passes or anything – I was just going to meet a friend for lunch and we ended up in the middle of all that. Fortunately I still remembered a few bhitra ko bato to get from the entrance side of Thamel to the other and from other to inside the Mandala Street. It was amusing. Just a little gutted that I hadn’t carried my bigger zoom lens.

PS. The film is titled BABY – zzz lol Bollywood seems to have totally run out of names/lyrics/dance moves. And the film crew looked like they had a hard time filming, with all that interest, noise and chanting. Oh well, that’s what you get for filming in the heart of Kathmandu’s tourist hub – THAMEL! Woop Woop!
