Now here’s a video that took a lot of people by complete surprise. And I think most people love it. LAURE is a lyrical genius and quite a poet. That combined with NEPTIVES and Laxcha Bantawa Films has resulted in quite a game-changing video! BANAWATI is a dark poem and an introduction to LAURE’s upcoming album “Chup Laag”. The rapper describes BANAWATI as a poem/song that “is concerned with inner feelings of an individual who is compelled to hide it from the society. It can be the inspiration for the third gender as well as all the loners and that’s how it is visualized”.

Whilst hip-hop has popularly ridiculed the LGBT community, it’s pretty surreal to see a popular rapper highlight a transgender man through his art and storytelling. This certainly is a moment for the LGBT movement and awareness in Nepal. Kudos to the BANAWATI team.

Once again, LAURE is a lyrical genius.

Banawati Lyrics:

Maan Bhitra Thuprai Prasna Cha

  1. i think in this case u r supposed to say a transgender woman. this can also be seen as a guy who cross dresses in secret so the video can also be see with a transvestite angle. but i guess if not for the video, the words could be interpreted in any way just as the description on the video with italic font suggests 🙂
