Bodhi Chhaaya, Life of Buddha is an all-out theatrical dance and musical extravaganza that is being showcased at the Rastriya Nachghar in Jamal. The theatre production is a feast for the eyes! One minute there’s an actor flying down to the stage and next there are beautiful women and handsome men dancing to the stage from behind you. With the entire play being narrated, the sound is an area I found lacking in terms of quality. The grand opening of the show on 17th September had many noted personalities in attendance including actress Manisha Koirala.
The show is an introduction to the life of Gautam Buddha. Presented by Rayshine Travels & Tours and directed by Kavita Srinivasan, it is ideal for non-Nepalis to see this romantic imagery of Nepal that has ample amount of teaching, dance and music. With the executive production by Sushila Arts Academy, Bodhi Chhaaya has several stand-out performers. Dubbed the largest cultural production in Nepal, it is quite an impressive show. Whilst I am unsure whether the show is historically correct, I am pretty confident that many will enjoy this loud, colourful display of the Buddha’s journey.
PS. Out of the impressive cast, you will also see Lucky Darlami (featured as The Ballet Boy From Nepal previously).
