Though Badhshala may be banned in Nepal, the overseas screenings of the film have been taking off to a good start in Australia and the UK. The very first show of Badhshala took place in Aldershot followed by Woolwich, Basingstoke and Ashford in the UK. The upcoming screening in Hounslow’s Paul Robeson Theatre will be the second showing in London on Sunday 14th April. Also a great day to mark the new day of the new Nepali calendar year. The film is expected to screen in the army community of Catterick on Sunday 30th March from 1330 onwards.
Director Manoj Pandit has a strong star cast with Anup Baral, Saugat Malla, Dayahang Rai, Arpan Thapa, Sarita Giri, Samuna KC and more. The film has a strong focus on the Maoist insurgency that killed over 13,000 between 1996-2006. The Nepal release for the film has been heavily negotiated with no fruitful outcome yet. On a side note, when Rabindra Mishra tweeted about seeing Badshala at a private screening and declaring the ban to be unnecessary, former PM Dr Baburam Bhattarai also exchanged a tweet sharing nothing but good words about the film. The theatrical trailer is definitely captivating with powerful glimpse of the actors and strong punchlines. Badhshala should definitely make a good viewing, catch it at your nearest screening.
