One Direction is HUGE and everyone knows that! When QFX Cinemas in Nepal screened One Direction : This Is Us, a concert film centering on the boy band and their journey so far, I was pretty surprised. The 92 minute long film directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) released worldwide on August 29. The film began its run at QFX Kumari and QFX Central Cinema from September 13 to 26. Made on a budget of $10 Million, the film has already collected over $62 Million and counting.
One Direction: This Is Us was the first concert film screened at QFX Cinemas. Founder Nakim Uddin says “there was a very high demand for the movie. Especially the teenagers and die hard fans of One Direction, so as to meet their expectations we decided to screen One Direction: This is Us”. Nepali Directioners who have created fanbases on social media websites including Facebook and Twitter were ecstatic to learn about the screening of the film in their own city. QFX Cinemas also screened One Direction: This Is Us for two weeks, the total number of admissions within two weeks at QFX Kumari was 804 and 2585 at QFX Central Cinema. Pretty good for a concert film! And of course, Nepali Directioners must’ve been hard at work to spread the word.
I also saw the 1D film here in London and was thoroughly entertained. The band are on their extended-honeymoon period; reaching out to millions and carefully marketed to their full glory by their management. It was pretty intriguing to observe the relationship between the band and their fans.
