UK based Nepali charity Maya Outreach successfully screened over 300 ladies aged 20-60 from Pokhara and nearby at its very first free pap smear screening event at the Gandaki Imaging & Diagnostic Centre on 18th January. The ongoing campaign by Maya Outreach was conducted in partnership with Nepal Cancer Relief Society Kaski and supported by Yuwa Forum. As the saying goes – it’s better to be safe than sorry and kudos to Maya Outreach for conducting the screening. Kanti Gurung Shrestha from Maya Outreach was ecstatic with the success of the program and fully believes that the event was able to generate further awareness regarding such screenings and different ways to stay healthy.
Dr Ruchi Hirachan informed the organizers that the event came at the right time as it was found that many women were in need for direct attention from doctors. Many who turned up were also unaware about the risks of cervical cancer and ways to stay ahead of the life-threatening illness.
