March 16 2014 will go down in Nepali cricket history! Not only did it mark the very first game for Nepal at the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup but they also won their first game against Hong Kong. The Nepali cricket team have officially arrived!! The match which took place in Chittagong in Bangladesh saw thousands of Nepali supporters in attendance (many Nepalis studying in Bangladesh and quite a number that travelled from Nepal) to support the Nepali cricket team, doesn’t that sound wonderful?? Unfortunately I wasn’t able to watch the game due to various other commitments but I heard that the stadium was dotted with our unique Nepali flag. What a moment for Nepali cricket supporters, the Nepali team and Nepal.
Speaking to the press after the win, captain of the Nepal cricket team Paras Khadka shared “It is a day of festival of colours and I would like to dedicate this victory to all our fans. We are playing the World Cup for the first time and making a good start to the dream has boosted the team morale”.
Here’s what The Kathmandu Post shared:
Skipper Paras Khadka and Gyanendra Malla shone with the bat while spinners Shakti Gauchan and Basanta Regmi sparkled with the ball as Nepal marked their arrival on the international cricket stage with a massive 80-run win over fellow newcomers Hong Kong in a preliminary group match at the World Twenty20 here on Sunday.
Nepal posted 149-8 after being sent into bat with captain Paras Khadka and Gyanendra Malla making significant contributions with the bat. The 150-run target proved too tall for Hong Kong as they were bowled out for just 69 in 17 overs.
Nepal will play Bangladesh tomorrow in Chittagong (18 March 2014). GOOD LUCK TEAM NEPAL!Join Lex on Twitter! Read More: Cricketer Woes Flawless Drawing of Paras Khadka New Jersey For Nepali Cricket Team Creating History – Nepal Qualifies For ICC World T20 2014
