“I’ve always believed that when your passion and your purpose collide, there is an explosion that ignites the light in you forever. I want you to find that passion and your purpose!” said Jolly Amatya. A young Nepali woman who was appointed as the “Youth Chair” for the Youth Assembly at the United Nations. The inspiring few minutes is on video for you to watch below!

The Youth Assembly platform creates an opportunity for more than 1000 exceptional youths from 97 countries to extend partnerships. With an objective to empower youth leaders and young professionals in the implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the 2016 Youth Assembly took place from August 10-12.

Amatya started her journey in the very same assembly hall as a Youth Representative for Nepal at the Youth Assembly in 2013. What a journey aye! In the past seven years, she has worked with United Nations, UN Women, WFUNA, World Bank, Habitat for Humanity and Action Aid International.

She believes that young people in Nepal have amazing potential and they need the right exposure, guidance, and mentorship. Young people if given the right skills and knowledge, can be the key agents of change. We are not the leaders of tomorrow, we are the leader of today, she says.
