Maiti Nepal’s ANURADHA KOIRALA is to be awarded the PADMA SHRI for her exemplary social work. The Maiti Nepal founder is also this years only non-Indian to be bestowed the honour by the Government of India.
The Padma Shri award recognizes citizens of India and others who are making an incredible contribution to the society through Arts, Education, Industry, Literature, Science, Sports, Medicine, Social Service and Public Affairs. The award also recognizes individuals who contribute to India in various ways.
The Nepalese social activist has been fighting against the trafficking of young girls and women from Nepal to India and other countries in South Asia. Respected by millions for her incredible work to stop sex slavery and give a fresh new start to thousands of women, Anuradha Koirala also became the CNN Hero in 2010.
