Bursting into the Nepali pop music scene with hits such as Timro Yaad Ma Kalpi Kalpi to Surilo Rukha Sallai Ho was Mamata Dipabima. The pop singers departure to USA saw her absence in the Nepali music industry for quite some time. That was until, June 2017 when Dipabima made a return with her song Mana Ko Kura. The music video which has been directed by Naren Limbu is Mamata’s fresh take on modern pop. Whilst it cannot be compared to her golden hits, I am sure her fans from the past are happy to see her back with new music. The music video features model Kusum Gurung from the UK.
Now what I’d love to listen to is Mamata Dipabima’s acoustic live session with her singing her old classics. I am so surprised to see her song on my inbox. It was in the early 2000’s, somewhere in the UK when I first heard of Mamata Dipabima. I was probably about 8-9 years old and she was there to perform at a Nepali event if I remember correctly. Timro Yaad Ma Kalpi Kalpi was a song that I remember. I had always wondered where life had taken her. I guess life is a circle indeed.
