Having occupied its central location in Lazimpat since 1963, the Hotel Ambassador Kathmandu is an address itself. It may have had a humble beginning with a ten-room bungalow but the newly reconstructed Hotel Ambassador stands tall at nine-storeys equipped with five fine-dining options from The Diplomat to Flat Iron Grill. With four different types of room currently on offer (Standard, Superior, Deluxe, Deluxe with Balcony), it was nice to see the Hotel Ambassador’s focus on local crafts and designs for the rooms interiors and hotel decor. The property may look modern and grand from the outside but there’s plenty on the inside that makes you feel the vibrant culture, colours and the religions that are present in Nepal. Even as a Nepali who has seen all these things, I was impressed with the immaculate presentation.
The property by ACE Hotels also houses Ardor and Tissah, two luxury brands offering the best of Nepal from leather goods, pashmina scarves to bags and more. During my stay at the hotel, I particularly liked how spacious the room felt (Deluxe With Balcony) and the view of the Narayanhiti Royal Palace, the Kathmandu Valley and Swayambhunath Stupa in the distance. The hotel’s location will undoubtedly be a big draw for many. It’s a few minutes walk to Thamel and Durbar Marg and even if you fancy dining outside then Lazimpat has quite a few restaurants and bars to cater to your needs. The Irish Pub which is located opposite to the hotel is recommended for a drink or two. I much prefer Thamel though.

The Hotel Ambassador Kathmandu rooms have what every modern city hotel offers. The sound-proofed rooms do wonders to block out the noise of the traffic. Thankfully, with drivers no longer allowed to beep their horns sleeping had never been so undisturbed. Reading and scrolling through Instagram, you really do enjoy the stillness that the room provides. And you do not need to be a foreign tourist to enjoy all this? Even if you’re a local resident, the Ambassador is an ideal space to de-stress from the chaotic Kathmandu life. The property will soon open its rooftop bar which will surely play a role in transforming the bar culture in Kathmandu. And of course, that will also be a reason for me to return to the hotel.

Couples. Families. Solo Travellers. On Business. Those that want to be close to the action but not in the middle of it.

The Diplomat . Kotetsu . Flat Iron Grill . Momo Queen . ROOF TOP BAR (Coming Soon)
PS. There are two lifts and well signed FIRE EXIT doors and a stairway in case of an emergency. Those are the first things I noticed on my walkabout and I look for nowadays in Kathmandu.
