Manindra Singh also known as Manil Singh won the title of MR GAY HANDSOME NEPAL 2017 after a stiff competition alongside sixteen contestants. The contestant from Sarlahi won the title, cash prize of Nrs 50,000 and a trophy on the evening of Tuesday, December 26 at the Rastriya Nachghar in Kathmandu. Joining Singh was first runner-up Birendra Chaudhary from Kailali winning Nrs 40,000 followed by Anuj Peter Rai from Lalitpur with Nrs 30,000 cash prize.
The contest focused on gay Nepali men started back in 2013 with Bishwaraj Adhikari winning the first ever title. After a gap of four years, the event was organised once again by Blue Diamond Society alongside various other organisations. The contest which aims to find Nepali gay men who will continue working for the rights and awareness of gay men in the country was successfully hosted by Subeksha Khadka.
In a country where we still lack safe spaces for women and people of different sexuality, it’s incredible that there are so many brave people who are willing to put themselves in such a platform where they are comfortable being themselves as well as willing to take on the responsibility to be a bigger voice for others like themselves. That itself is inspiring and I hope it inspires others, whether you’re gay or not, to believe in yourself and to continue pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
