We can only wish that some statistics were indeed ‘fake news’ and created solely for the purpose of the first of April. Unfortunately, this statistic is not. A study conducted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on “Human Trafficking on Indo-Nepal Border” reveals that trafficking of Nepali girls to India has increased by 500% since 2013. The girls who are brought from Nepal are sold to brothel owners in cities across India for up to INR 50,000. The shocking news was reported on Times of India on 31st of March.
Girls aged as little as 9 have found to be trafficked to the neighbouring country, forced into prostitution, domestic work with cases of organs being illegally harvested and sold to the circus trade. What a sad state of affair… ah. I have nothing to add.
This was one of the imperative issues to be raised by oli to his counterpart during his india visit. Attempts to trafficking control have to be made from indian side as well. But all we can see is PM posing with smile at airport regardless of the problems with no solutions.
