Article19 London which popularly uses the hashtag #ExpressionsofNepal has launched their latest product. The Hami United tee designed by Rasmi Dewan takes inspiration from Nepal’s national anthem and has the line “Sayau Thunga Phoolka Hami, Eutai Mala Nepali” splashed in the centre. The tee positively focuses on celebrating the diversity of Nepali people.
The platform which exists as a website and on Instagram has been sharing the work of creative Nepali people across the globe. The Article19LDN team spoke about their latest product saying “After being painfully aware about how discrimination is still so prevalent in the Nepalese community due to traditional caste based practices, Article 19 has partnered with Hami United and a few other Nepalese Brands/Organisations to make a difference and create awareness within our communities”. The tees will support HAMI UNITED with 100% of the profits to be donated to the UK volunteer organisation. The lookbook is now online for all to view – click here.
The “Hami United Tee” will be used for the following:
Organise workshops/projects to educate about caste discrimination in the UK.
Work with/donate the money to caste discrimination based organisations/charities.
Provide support and assistance to victims of caste discrimination in Nepal and the UK.
NEHA JOWARCHAN: No matter what caste or culture we belong to, we are all humans at the end of the day. We bleed the same blood and breathe the same air. So let’s not divide each other but come stronger together as one!SUJAN SHRESTHA: We are all born different, we are all raised different, we all have different backgrounds, different ideals, different passions, different journeys and different destinations. However, we could have one small thing in common that can bind us all together with all of our differences to something much more greater. This is what turns drops of water to oceans, trees to forests and stars to the galaxies. There lies the power of unity and harmonySAMI MALLA: What connects us is the diverse cultures and similar practices that we share as people of Nepal. Being proud of who we are should resonate with how we treat one another; uniting us as a community.ANJOLA GAUTAM: It’s sad that casteism is still strongly active to this day, for centuries our narcissist society only created hatred between our own people. It’s time we break these barriers and start educating ourselves. Instead of fighting for our egos and meaningless status, we need to focus on building a brighter and happier future for the country, where people can live in peace- imagine a place like that! It’s only possible if we put an end to this, once and for all!BISHWAHANG LIMBU: “Our unity is our Strength and Diversity is our Power”.LEX LIMBU: The diversity that Nepal and its people offer is what makes us unique. We need to continue walking this path to respect, understand and learn from each other.
