I find it pretty crazy how I just casually blogged about Yeti Airlines GREEN FAR WEST project last year and this year, I got invited by the airlines marketing team to join other journalists from Kathmandu to observe the plantation sites from the previous years and be part of this years tree plantation in Dhangadhi. Pretty cool!
Yeti Airlines in association with RAAIKA TOURS has started planting over 2500 saplings in the area of Uttar Rameshworam in Dhangadhi. The plantation program is set to run for a week. Since the inception of the GREEN FAR WEST project with RAAIKA TOURS in 2010, the companies together have planted over 130,000 saplings in Kanchanpur, Kailali and Doti districts.
Yeti Airlines donates Rs. 20 for each one way ticket and Rs. 40 for each return ticket to this program from the Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj sectors. “We are committed to reducing the impacts of carbon emissions on the environment. We also want people who have flown with us in these sectors to feel good that they have also contributed towards conservation of the environment” said Roshan Regmi, Marketing Manager of Yeti Airlines.
The plantation event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the program assistant Chief District Officer Uday Bahadur Singh and popular Nepalese taekwondo player Deepak Bista.
I will be writing more about my experience in Dhagadhi over on my daily blog – justlexlimbu.com I had an amazing time visiting the far west, briefly walking through and viewing the plantation sites from the previous years and being part of this years plantation in Dhangadhi. It was great to see the involvement of many locals from college students, government officials, army personnel to young children.
Here’s to many more plantations in the far west and more of such work in the East, Central and mid-West.
