The Golden Student Award recipient of 2014, Pranay Raj Shakya has recently been awarded as the National Union of Students runner up for NUS International Students’ Officer Of The Year. Shakya is the Student Union Vice President for Education at the Liverpool Hope University. On top of his duties he has introduced capacity building programmes such as the Modern Foreign Language Peer Mentorship Programme and Leadership training, and also joined his fellow sabbatical officers to further increase engagement with the SU.
Samad Majid, a third year student who nominated Pranay shared “The impact he has had with the Students Union this year has been phenomenal and one for the history books here at Hope. Pranay has played an integral part in helping me to get involved in activities, events, campaigns and forums, as well as motivating me to run for a PTO role. I have been involved in many of the events he has put on, whether it be salsa night, the MFLP programme, radio interviews, campaigns, leadership programs, even aiding me in my role as SU Disabled Student Officer. There aren’t enough words to describe the work done by the SU team this year, especially Pranay. He is a credit to himself and everyone around him. He literally sparks energy, motivating and inspiring individuals and always giving 110% to help anyone – not just students. He is a role model, and for me the right man to be at the forefront to represent students of all genders and ethnicities at Hope.”
Pranay shared “I felt really pleased to be nominated by Hope students but even more happy to know that our students felt supported by my work. We all, sabbatical officers at Hope, are trying our best to represent Liverpool Hope on a national platform and it shows that sabbatical officers from small universities can bring lots of different productive ideas to work within their role. I am also very glad to be a runner up, representing and working as the first international student sabbatical officer at Hope”.
