Nisha Adhikari in Maroon 5 Video!

2

Nisha’s looking hot lately! Credits to her and whoever that styles or shoots her. Or maybe her much promoted 2 Weeks weight ‘loss’ program is working positively on her! Well here’s something interesting about the actress. While she was studying in LA late last year she was casually observing the video shoot for Maroon 5’s ‘Never Gonna Leave This Bed’. Fortunately Nisha was captured and you can see a glimpse of her enjoying the music at 2:46. Check it out.

Who is Sweta Lamichhane?

8

You may have read about her already. She’s referred to as the the first Nepali Girl in Hollywood, a girl with big dreams and ambitions. Why not? If we have the power to dream then BIG is the way to go. Patan born Sweta Lamichhane currently lives in the US and also happens to be the first Nepalese woman in the United States Marines Corps. Sweta, who is now a US military veteran juggles many aspects of her life like a true star. From studying to working as an actress, model and a singer this energetic soul is already on the process of starting her own skincare and make-up business.

When asked about the challenges that one faces in Hollywood, Sweta explains ‘Everyone in Hollywood is an actress/actor and if you’re not an actress, you work in the industry! The whole town seems to be competing against each other. It’s very cut-throat. I felt very out of place there.’ Being a Beverly Hills Playhouse graduate, Sweta fished around for auditions while she lived in Hollywood, however it wasnt long till she realized that her job as a hostess then was restricting her from pursuing her creative path. To be content and satisfied Sweta made her big move to the Eastside to which she credits for the good thing’s that have happened so far.

Since then Sweta now boasts of receiving good amount of call backs, projects and green light at auditions. Lamichhane will also be showcasing her triple threat when she releases her album for which the first single is already online; Little Thing Called Love. This year alone Sweta worked in four independent films which will all be screened at various film festivals including the Sundance. Having just been nominated for the ‘Human Values Award’, Hollywood should surely watch out for Sweta and we should encourage this Nepalki chori to consistently work harder and grow.

The Simpsons – NEPALI Style!

6
I felt the need to share this photo of Homer and Marge from Simpsons wearing Nepali clothes. Photo shared from Swapnil Acharya. What should their respective Nepali names be? Homprasad and Magaladevi?

Not long till I fly to Nepal and I shall be hitting the bars and clubs one night with my friends in tow in Nepali gear. Cannot wait – NEPAL NIGHT RETURNS!

lexlimbu on The Kathmandu Post

12

Ma dherai khushi chu… I got featured on a national newspaper for the first time today; The Kathmandu Post. I think it’s just amazing considering I am someone who is a fanatic of this whole celebrity pop-culture, media and entertainment; and for someone like that to slowly become recognized for doing just that is simply amazing. Many who are near me and from far tell me, you aren’t even talented but you are so popular. I think that just sums it up. There are people out there with talent and that skill yet they are easily lost in the mass and here is me who doesn’t have a sculpted skill or a specific talent. A huge thank you to The Kathmandu Post for the feature, I appreciate it wholeheartedly and love the fact that so much research was actually done for the first time. Loved reading it.

Finally, when I woke up this morning I had screenshots of the newspaper shared on my twitter and facebook by fb-friends from Nepal and wishes kept pouring in. I want to say thank you to each and everyone of you. Without your support lexlimbu.com wouldn’t be lexlimbu.com .
LOVE.

Mero Best Friend – Jharana’s NEW MOVIE!

5
After a year long hiatus Jharana Bajracharya is back in the upcoming Nepali flick Mero Best Friend. Jharana who has always been picky regarding film’s vouches to work only in projects with a strong script, so that obviously means Mero Best Friend must have that ‘ZING’ for her to say Yes! We can only hope that ‘ZING’ will come across on screen like fire! The movie is being directed by Prasanna Poudel who has previously directed Swor and stars Resh Marhatta (formerly known as Suresh Marhatta) and Divas Upreti.

This is not the first time that Jharana and Resh will be seen onscreen together. Previously they acted opposite each other in ‘Chahanchu Ma Timilai Nai’. The poster above is probably a working poster but it seriously doesn’t look nice and the poses look copied from some Hindi movie – similar to Dostana. The font for ‘Mero’ looks so tried and tested. Seriously? Paint ma ta banako haina? Whoever is doing this design and photography please please please step up your effort in the next because I know there is room for ‘betterment and am hopeful that will be delivered to us FANS.

PS. A new Jharana movie means – ENDLESS PROMOTIONS from me! 😀

Nepali Students in UK

34

Very relevant video. This is a documentary which investigates the contrasting lives that Nepali students in the UK have. To make it clear, students that have recently joined various educational institutes in UK from Nepal generally have it more difficult here as they come with a International Student status which limits them in terms of working and they are far from their support system; being their family. This is in stark contrast to Nepali students who have been living and studying here for a long time, mostly due to their Gurkha background. These fortunate students are mostly living with their family.

Words from the maker of the video; Soya Budrathoki:
I chose the name “NEPATHYA” because “NEPATHYA” in Nepali means “behind the curtains” meaning the importance of the backstage, the silent players behind the main actors. My documentary in a way compares the lives of those youths who have migrated with the people who are based here in the UK itself. So hence the Nepathya behind us, for example in this documentary with Major Tikendra Dal Dewan and Pushpa and their family, other financial+emotional support which plays a huge role in the background of their lives. I think the meaning of the title signfies the whole content of the project, that’s why “Nepathya” was chosen for the title of my documentary.

The winning team will be playing Jordan in late July.

MORE New Magazines in Nepal!

13
whenITrainsITpours.
Check out some of the new magazines that have entered the Nepali market. I believe the oldest out of this batch would be Essence unfortunately Lex here has to say that Essence by far has the worst cover, not feeling the girl ko fyaa wallah pose, the quite tacky font and a splash of colours which make it look like it’s done on Microsoft Paint.

Teenz definitely has the best font for its header whilst Vivacity’s header font look’s like it was very much inspired from Navyaata. Folio is on my ‘watch out’ list already because so far they’ve had guys on their covers – before you jump to conclusion, I am applauding them for the fact that they are being different and using guys, there are fit men in Kathmandu too. AND most magazine readers tend to be female so it makes sense to have guys on covers.
Girls are pleasing to look at but c’mon, tei same type of keti herda herda alchi lagi sakyo; on internet ‘modelling’ sites to these countless magazines = boring.

Also joining the team of Teenz is one of Kathmandu’s popular personality Samriddhi Rai. We will have to wait and see how Rai will shake things up in Teenz after a not so kind feedback on my previous post. Well well well, don’t take it to the heart editors, reporters and writers. Take it to the desk and improve it.
Yours truly.

PS. the only girl that looks nice from the 3 covers is the one on Teenz, probably because she looks cute and teeny, that’s it. The other two… well with Vivacity – if it was some famous actress/model doing that pose then that may be interesting but if she’s let say… no one, then it’s not interesting and Essense… hmmm. No comment. O and our man Vinay looks buff on the cover.

Top Model UK Nepal Brings The HEAT!

2
There isn’t long left till the finale of Mr & Miss Top Model UK Nepal and finally we have started to see the girls and boys more. The contestants made their first public appearance at HAV’s White Party with a crowd-pleasing catwalk! The catwalk was short and sweet (I was there cheering them on), probably the highlight of the night as it easily was memorable as compared to some other act’s that were lined up to perform in the same evening. Let’s just say, all act’s were equally good but the environment didn’t suit all the acts.
Moving on – the contestants for TMUK-Nepal have already been training at Aldershot for their grand finale and today they filmed for a party promo video for Parcha Productions upcoming party; Ranginai Parcha. The models shall once again bring their heat by teasing us with their sweet but sexy catwalk on the 8th of July and another crowd-puller will be the infamous duo Rapholic and Robo Kok! Surely a date to remember!

The Uglyz – Ajhai Video

2

The Uglyz has just released their music video for Ajhai, this happens to be their second track from the album ‘In Transit’ which was released in Nepal only few months ago. The video was directed by Karan Shrestha and also features Sarun’s real-life girlfriend Payal Shakya for few seconds.
The Uglyz are all set to tour Australia for the first time with dates kicking off from the last week of July. Their first show will be in Melbourne on the 23rd followed by Brisband on the 24th and then Sydney on the 31st July. I liked the concept of the video, what do you guys think?

Ramri Alert – Sushma Karki

9
Sushma Karki and Rabin Shrestha
A relatively new face in the Nepali Film Industry is Sushma Karki, you may have seen her playing the role of a village girl in Mero Euta Saathi Cha and few other movies. Karki who has already graced the CyberSansar hall of fame will next be seen in the Sudarshan Thapa directed ‘K Yo Maya Ho’. Check out the promo for the movie after the jump!

Airport Hotel in Kathmandu

10

Did you ever notice that tall building directly opposite the Kathmandu airport entrance which was under construction for a while, well that is the new Airport Hotel. It sure did take it’s time to be built and come into operation but as the saying goes ‘better late than never’. Tourists, business people and everyone in general can now make the most of the hotel and its facilities. We all know how bandha’s can be a pain in the ass and have resulted to many walking from their homes/hotels to the airport so having this hotel is an asset as now if there’s ever a long bandha approaching then head over to the airport hotel before everything shuts down – it surely will help you avoid the treacherous walk!

This seems like a complete business hotel with conference facilities and the what-not. Gymnasium and even a swimming pool. Lovely! Now if another hotel opens up nearby then maybe the price will come tumbling down.

Lesbian Couple Marry in Nepal

6

The most amusing thing I found from the marriage photo’s was the ritual of the American couple sharing the banana, like really. Banana? It’s just unusual – I wonder what the reason behind that is.
The couple got married as per Hindu traditions at Dakshinkali Temple on Monday. When questioned why they decided to follow the Hindu way of marriage Courney Mitchell, 41 who is a psychology professor in Colorado says “We decided to do it in Hindu tradition because there are instances of Hindu gods of same sex marrying,”.

Save Our Sisters by Chhimmi Gurung

4
Chhimmi Gurung’s latest project for her course was SAVE OUR SISTERS, the project is linked with raising awareness against anti-trafficking and anti-prostitution activities alongside Maiti Nepal. Chhimmi with the help of Maiti Nepal – UK also sold items to fundraize for the women in Nepal. The picture’s that Chhimmi has taken to portray the different types of abuse are just amazing if not spectacular. I haven’t quite seen such a different way of editing and portrayal through the use of images in recent times. Head over to Chhimmi’s Blog for more details on her project.

What do you guys think? To view few other images that Chhimmi has taken and to watch the short video for the Save Our Sisters campaign – hit the jump below!

We Love Denim by Navyaata!

9

She was previously on my RAMRI ALERT and she’s back flaunting her panache. Here is Sitara Webster on the Asadh issue of Navyaata magazine for the ”We Like, We Want, We LOVE… DENIM!” fashion feature. Exotic faced Sitara who is half-English and half-Nepali can be seen showing the diverse ways in which we can wear denim.

But let’s not forget our love for jeans, Navyaata has also done a feature for ‘Favourite Jeans’. My favourite one which I’ve worn to countless parties and have had since 2009 was bought in Cloud 9 store in Duwa Complex, Pokhara. Twas my most preferred store and I made a quick stop during my overnight stay in Lakeside in ’09. It cost me Nrs 1600 and I’ve probably worn it more than 100 times, maybe more. But wearing it proud.
PS. If you happen to get a copy of Navyaata then do read my latest article titled ‘Being Nepali’ and let me know your thoughts.

£1.9 BILLION To Be Invested in LUMBINI

6
Wanna hear GOOD NEWS? Read On Brothers!

Seems like the birthplace of Buddha – Lumbini will finally be on the map thanks to the assistance by China in transforming our Lumbini to some sort of a Buddhist Mecca! The scheme which has been backed up by Prachanda, Paras and a Chinese firm plans to better the existing airport, highways (general infrastructure), build more monasteries, hotels and even a Buddhist University. Fancy right? China is providing the £1.9 Billion (GBP) fund – lets hope the Chinese keep a close eye on the balance sheet as the last thing we would want is the bank account of Mr Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Mr Paras Shah to get more congested.
PS. India apparently isn’t too happy hearing news about China’s involvement in Lumbini. C’mon India, do I hear £3.2 Billion already? 😉

Talking about India, here’s a worthy news. Indigo Airline which is a low-cost carrier that had been operating in domestic routes is finally starting international services from this September. However if the authorities in Nepal give the go-ahead then Kathmandu will be the first destination for this airline starting on August 4. Now YAY to the Delhi-Kathmandu flyers as this means PRICE WAR! We all know what happened last time when Cosmic Air stupidly decided to ignite such a war, lets just say – history. Moving on, Indigo is expected to conduct 7-flights per week and one-way fares may cost around Nrs 7000.
HMM. My only thought is – there’s already multiple airlines flying that route, why not try Mumbai, or other less congested routes.

Bruttthhhass and sisstass! This probably is the best news. Here’s a picture of a newly constructed bridge near Sinam gau in Taplejung. The construction of this bridge has now made life so much easier for villagers, tourists and let’s say even the animals that need to cross the Kabeli Khola. Also to me, as I shall be heading to my gau this summer.

YAY to DEVELOPMENT!

Watch HAMRO TEAM Online!

1

You’ve probably watched it already but here you have the chance to catch up with the HAMRO TEAM episodes online thanks to their Official YouTube channel. Kya ramro, hamii bideshma baseko Nepali harulaii katii sukha bhayo yo bewasthale! The second episode screened on Kantipur TV yesterday (Thursday)

I’ve seen the first and second episode and I loved it. Football isn’t something that holds great interest for me but Hamro Team is well made, well acted and so far is worth a watch. Twas my first time watching Reecha Sharma act and she’s got the ‘act’ and Eelum Dixit ta bhannai parena, I like his ‘halka’ alchi parale bolne style, it kinda reminds me of the way Aryan Sigdel speaks. All in good gist though.

What I would say to the actors and actresses is – maintain.maintain.maintain. Just because Hamro Team becomes a hit doesn’t mean you should stuff yourself up at Thamel or Jhamel; watch your weight. We do not want to see double chins in a months time, a fine balance between meat and bones is good. I think there’s far too many over-healthy looking actors and actresses in Nepal. Naam chai ailee na bhanum hola,
HAPPY WATCHING.

Waiting – Short Video by Pradeep

2

Pradeep is an aspiring film maker, working hard to establish himself as a professional film director. This is his third professionally directed short film after his graduation last October. His previous short film sucessfully won De La Warr Young Pavillion Festival 2011 and is currently being screened at Fastnet Short Film Festival 2011 in Ireland. Also, in past he was nominated for National Award and recieved funding from Winchester City council for University level project.

I watched the video twice, just to see how the girl actually picked up the note. So sad, but awesome work done by the whole team. Looking forward to see more full-length features from Pradeep.
