See Nepal In The Doctor Strange Trailer

1

The trailer release of the MARVEL’s Doctor Strange has literally got everyone talking! Everyone is talking about it for very different reasons; there’s the MARVEL fans, Benedict Cumberbatch fans (or Cumburbitches as some refer to themselves) and there’s Nepali people all over the world who are pretty stoked to see Nepal featured in the trailer. Hopefully we will see more of Doctor Strange in the next few months. Unfortunately, it is quite a long wait as the film will only release in cinemas on November 4, 2016.

The trailer looks sooo intriguing! Slightly giving me INCEPTION feels too which is a great thing as that film was pretty amazing. I believe we might just be seeing quite a few Nepalese faces in the film as extras as quite a few people who I know here (in the UK) took on roles of extras during the shoot at Pinewood Studios. Apparently, the studios created a mini-Thamel where they did quite a lot of the filming. Sounds mindblasting yaaah!

Meghauli Serai, a luxurious lodge set in the outskirts of Chitwan National Park marks the re-entry of Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces in Nepal. The luxury lodge opened last week after facing a delay in 2015. The Chaudhary Group (CG) Hotels and Resorts property signed a management contract with Taj where it will operate under the groups luxury brand Taj Safaris. Meghauli Serai offers a presidential suite ‘Rapti Mahal’ with its own private viewing deck and plunge pool, 16 luxury villas ‘Rapti Villas’ with private plunge pools and 13 standard rooms ‘Meghauli Rooms’.

Meghauli-Serai-Chitwan-Nepal

The new super luxury property with an investment of Rs 700 million was described by managing director of CG Hotels and Resorts as an “ultra-luxury resort”. Chaudhary shared with The Kathmandu Post “We aim at creating a new market by offering a superior product”.

A night at the Meghauli Serai currently starts from $250-300 per night for the Meghauli Rooms and the Rapti Villas. The normal price will come into effect from Autumn with the Rapti Mahal at $1500 per night followed by Rapti Villas at $700 and Meghauli Rooms at $500.

The promo video which stars Shristi Shrestha and Prasan Chawla looks AMAZING! Love IT! I hope Meghauli Serai also brings the best working practice and positive action in the community; one that respects the local customs and way of life and also encourages sustainable practices for Chitwan, the wildlife and the Tharu community.

Throwback Thursday – MUSIC

0

I recently went to a friends house for dinner and saw a classic vinyl record player and it was fully functional too. I didn’t realise that they were pretty affordable too. It’s something I would like to buy, I may not use it all the time but it does look nice.

Urban Dictionary definition:

throwback: A sudden reminder of the past. This can be brought about by hearing a song from high school, seeing an ex. etc.’

TEARS DRY ON THEIR OWN By AMY WINEHOUSE

This is one of my favourite songs from Amy Winehouse. I still haven’t got around to watching the AMY Documentary film. Imagine how many amazing soulful songs Amy Winehouse would’ve created had she still been alive. Thankfully, her music lives on.

TIMI AAJA BHOLI By SUDIP GIRI

This song was soooo popular once upon a time! It definitely brings back a lot of vivid memories of my cousin singing this like crazy; in their very hoarse voice. I am sure you’ve heard of this song too!

Enjoy!

Jharana Bajracharya Becomes A Mother!

0

One of the most talked about Miss Nepal, the first to represent Nepal at Miss World at the age of 16, a film actress who was more well-known for her music videos and her controversial performance in the Bollywood song ‘Katra Katra’, Jharana Bajracharya became a mother on the morning of Saturday April 9, 2016 to Ishaan at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Jharana has been living in Malaysia since her marriage to Rahul Agrawal.

She has already shared a photo of her on Instagram and the new mother looks very radiant, happy and healthy! Wishing Jharana, Rahul and Ishaan all the best health.

TRAILER : GAJALU Starring Anmol KC and Shristi Shrestha

0

We finally have the trailer for GAJALU starring Anmol KC and Shristi Shrestha. The film by Hem Raj BC marks Shristi’s entry into Nepali cinema alongside Anmol, Gaurav Pahari, Saloon Basnet, Menuka Pradhan, Gauri Malla and more. I can’t wait to see Shristi in the film. I’ve already been hearing a lot of positive feedback of HAMLET (in Nepali) which is currently running at the Theater Village in Kathmandu (daily).

So Shristi plays a former Kumari, living Goddess in the film! I guess one can expect a lot of ‘first’ for her in the film and the consequential drama/tragedy for Anmol… as seen in the trailer.

Looks like a light fun watch.

PS. Here’s a song from GAJALU which hit the web few days/possibly a week ago.

5 WORK Songs To Get You Through The Week!

1

We always need beats to get us through the day and for those in employment; to get us through WORK! Work or WERK, however you like to say or spell it, has been in popular use all over social media. It has been popularised by shows such as RuPauls Drag Race and various other celebrities through their use in songs and videos. However you heard it or use it, I came up with my favourite WORK songs that will definitely help you get through the week!

WORK By RIHANNA

This is the biggest WORK song right now! Rihanna is back with her latest ANTi album and her song WORK featuring Drake has been topping the charts in USA, UK and many countries all over the world. The catchy song easily transports you to a Friday on the dance floor; getting down and killin’ it on the dancefloor.

Definitely the song to wake you up in the morning!

PS. I prefer the second video. How about you?

WORK BITCH By BRITNEY SPEARS

WORK BITCH by Britney Spears is hands down my favourite work anthem and the song I live by! Britney literally tells you that “if you wanna live fancy, you better WORK BITCH”. This song is a perfect reminder to why you go to work; to hopefully drive a Maserati, party in France and have a hot body. It’s definitely the song to play at the gym too! You read it, “now get to work bitch”.

WORK FROM HOME By FIFTH HARMONY

I never thought one day this girl group would be the biggest girl bands when I watched them on the season two of X Factor USA. They’ve produced quite a few hits and their most recent track WORK FROM HOME is quite a  chilled out catchy track that asks you to work from home. Lol. The background beats sound so simple and nice.

WORK By IGGY AZALEA

Okay. I remember blasting this song at 6AM in the morning to get myself out of bed just to get to work; to fund my travels. Iggy sings/raps about hustling, being up all night at work and valley girls doing dirty things for fancy shoes. I do not advise you to follow all that she says. Make sure you continue working on your shit.

WORK By CIARA

Having seen Ciara perform live, I can say she is an amazing dancer and a pretty good singer too. She definitely deserves so much more; she definitely works! This WORK song featuring Missy Elliot is an instant beat to show your moves on the floor and to actually get you out of bed and make sure you’re ready to own the day!

What’s your favourite WORK song from this blogpost? Or if your favourite work song isn’t here then share the link on the comment below.

An Open Letter To Prince Harry By A Gurkha’s Daughter

1
Prince Harry pays respect to the Gurkhas who have died serving the crown in British Gurkhas Pokhara Camp

Here’s an open letter by a daughter of a Gurkha soldier Sona to Prince Harry. Feel free to have a read.

Dear Prince Harry,

We Nepalese are smitten and besotted with your good-heartedness, simplicity, genuineness and humbleness. It doesn’t help much that you are so much like the late Princess Di, exuding profuse charm and warmth.

My Father is a proud Gurkha, he feels honoured to have served the Queen for 16 long years. He still tells us stories about how he provided security to the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, the highly arduous Jungle trainings, his stint on various missions, and the fun they had when they finally did get to party. I can see a twinkle in his eyes every time he speaks of his yester years, and we still listen with the same awe and admiration. Owing to my dad, we grew up revering and highly regarding the Queen and the Royal Family.

I was especially fascinated by you, apart from being Millenials, we shared the same birth year. We grew up in an era where we could enjoy our childhood without technology of any sorts, and we grew up listening to the same genre of music and watching the same movies. Like me, I am sure you must have wished that Jack should not have died in Titanic, and you too must have grooved to the tunes of “Macarena”. And, like me you have suffered the agony of having to be separated from a love one. Our separations were fated, albeit mine was fated as a result of the Laws of your Land.

Until now, the issue that has suffered a setback, the issue of the Gurkha Adult Dependent Children, is also a Human Right issue that needs to be addressed by The British Government. I was merely 11 years old when my dad retired (1995), and if my parents were allowed “Indefinite leave to remain in UK”(ILR) at that time, I would now be happily settled in the UK with my family. My parents are now in London and me and my brother are here in Nepal because our application for ILR was rejected (2009). The British Government did review its policy regarding the Gurkha Adult Dependent Children, and I applied under the new policy, but my application was rejected again (2015), and I have appealed against the decision even though I am uncertain about the outcome. I do have cousins and friends whose applications for ILR were accepted even though they were above 18 at the time of application, which shows the inconsistency in the policy, if it is a right bestowed to many, why is it denied to me?? I request the British Government to impose the policy as a right of the Gurkhas and not merely as a DV lottery which requires pure luck.

The mental and emotional turmoil that we have to face while awaiting the outcome of our appeals (which may take many years) is beyond explanation. It’s literally frustrating, so much so that I had to undergo a treatment for depression. The Annex K, among other criteria, requires us to be single, emotionally and financially dependent on our parents, and by Nepali standards, I am far beyond the age of finding a suitor, and I intend to defy myself a suitor even if it means having to wait until my forties, by whence I believe my child bearing capacities will have dwindled significantly. Many others like me have given up their hope, but for me, my hope will die only when I do!!!

As you have highlighted my Country in the global map, I request you to highlight the issues related to Gurkha Adult children to the concerned authorities. With various Gurkha organisations sidelining the issues of Gurkha Adult Children, I turn my hopes to The Prince of the people, who I feel will be able to empathise with us, with our longing to be with our loved ones, and who has the potential to make a difference, till then the endless waiting goes on!!! We Gurkhalis love you and we would love to have you back!!! We also firmly believe in blessings…… May you be blessed with the loveliest wife and kids!!! Adieu!!!

Yours truly,

Sona Pomu Limbu.

throwback thursday: When you put a picture from a “while” ago on your social media sites’

Since last week, I’ve started this #ThrowbackThursday – MUSIC section on the blog (let’s see how long I’ll keep this going for) and it is mainly just to get my past music interests shared here on the blog and hopefully some of you will also like the shares. So lets get on to it!

Unfaithful by Rihanna (American)

Rihanna has a huge catalogue of hits and is definitely heading to become a modern day pop superstar. While her music direction and style may have changed in the past few years, hits like Unfaithful still are among my favourites from Rihanna’s music.

MAYA by The Uglyz

I feel like there was a time in the Nepali music scene when there were songs that you would just hear and it catch on. Even the non-Nepali music listeners would end up knowing the songs. MAYA is definitely a favourite by The Uglyz from their Rush album. Oh how they took over the hearts of millions across Nepal. This is a timely throwback just before their upcoming gig in London on April 23rd.

This Short Clip Will Make You Want To Visit Langtang

0

In need of some travel inspiration??

This video might just do the trick! It’s only a promo and less than 3 minutes long but ‘The Langtang Trek‘ by Sisan Baniya manages to bring out the inner adventure instantly. The video which features three guys on a trek to the Langtang region, which was severely affected by the Nepal earthquake in April 25, 2015 aims to show how much damage has been done and what can be done to help the people recover from the tragedy.

If only a few minute clip could raise so much excitement, I wonder what the full video will do! A flawless video with a fitting sound track.

PS. While you’re watching the video. Don’t forget to view more of Sisan Baniya’s work. Quite a story teller he is.

MUSIC: Aizen’s Cover of K Yo Maya Ho

1

Here’s a song that I’ve been hitting the Replay button too often for. AIZEN recently shared his new cover/remix rendition of the popular song K YO MAYA HO by Hercules Basnet for the film JERRYY and it’s pretty amazing!!!! The cover by AIZEN to me sounds pretty urban and it definitely leaves you wanting to hear more from him.

The video has been directed by Zac Rai who you may know from KYD Vision with the music produced by Jay Author.

Thumbs up guys!
